Join us for an evening beneath the Lofoten sky as we leave the lights of town behind and search for the Northern Lights with a local guide.

There is no fixed route. We follow the weather, cloud cover and conditions of the night to give you the best possible chance of experiencing the Aurora.

The Northern Lights do not follow a schedule – and neither do we.

Before and during the tour, your guide follows the weather, cloud cover and local conditions to decide where the evening takes us. We may head towards an open beach, a quiet fjord or somewhere away from the lights of the villages.

Sometimes finding the Aurora means staying in one place and waiting. Other nights, it means moving to find a break in the clouds. We adapt the evening as the conditions change.

An Evening Under the Lofoten Sky

Searching for the Northern Lights is only part of the experience. There is something special about being outside in Lofoten after dark – surrounded by mountains, sea and winter silence.

During the evening, there is time to step outside, watch the sky and enjoy the surroundings without rushing from one place to the next. Your guide shares stories and knowledge about the Northern Lights, Lofoten and life in the north along the way.

And when the cold starts to settle in, we have a warm drink waiting for you.

Can We Guarantee the Northern Lights?

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and no one can guarantee when or where they will appear.

What we can do is use local knowledge, weather forecasts and current conditions to search for the best possibilities that evening. We stay flexible throughout the tour and make the most of the conditions we are given.

And that uncertainty is part of what makes seeing the Aurora so special.

Private tour: 9,495 NOK – maximum 7 guests
Shared group size: Maximum 8 guests
Season: October–April
Pick-up: From your accommodation in the Kabelvåg or Svolvær area, or from our office at Sjøgata 3, Kabelvåg.

Dress for the night

Winter nights in Lofoten can feel cold, especially when standing outside waiting for the Aurora. Dress in warm layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer, warm socks, gloves, a hat and insulated winter footwear.

It is always better to bring one layer too many than one too few.

A fantastic experience with Hooked on Lofoten! We had five people on the boat, and the guide was absolutely great. Even though the fishing season is quite challenging right now, I managed to catch three large cod and several saithe. A really wonderful extra service at the end: the guide professionally gutted and cleaned the catch, so I was able to take the fish with me perfectly prepared to eat. Highly recommended!

He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and humorous and cooked us some fantastic fresh fish burgers for lunch. Would highly recommend this to anyone, whether beginner or more experienced! Erland is an incredibly knowledgeable guy with bags of humour too - ask about his fish butchery! We got a unique experience that we won’t forget in a hurry. Top class, would recommend to anyone in Lofoten (and although not included, the sauna and dip in the sea after was the cherry on the top!). Vi var heldig med været og alle sammen fikk flere fisker hver. Vi matet havørn med de minste fiskene, før vi dro inn til kai hvor Erlend viste oss hvordan man sløyer fisken. Talkative in a good and relaxed way and was both joking and telling anecdotes. After the fishing trip he instructed us how to take care of every part of the fish and cut up the fish for us. We also had the Hooked and cooked experience were Erland instructs the chef how he should serve every bit of the fish, and the chef at Nyvågar was incredible in making Erlands vision come to life. I wish we’d found them sooner because this was by far our favorite experience in Lofoten. Erland was very genuine and knowledgeable, let us know what to expect, and was very kind and accommodating with our 4yo— even setting up a child’s fishing rod for him to use.
